Build Your Own Solar Panels For Green Energy

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009
Jude Angelo asked:

Climate change, the price of oil, decline of natural resources - all of these are playing into the worldwide effort to develop sustainable, “green” energy. One effort that’s growing in popularity is a trend toward learning how to build solar panels to generate electricity at home.

Solar panels offers many environmental advantages. First and foremost, it’s a renewal resource, since it generates electricity from sunlight. Thanks to ongoing technology improvements in solar power, it has become much more economical and practical. Another big plus to solar power is that it doesn’t cause pollution, like the emissions from coal-burning power plants, or the nuclear waste from nuclear power plants.

There is a disadvantage to solar panels, and it’s a simple one: no sunshine, no power. It’s possible to store solar-powered electricity in batteries, but that’s not an efficient process at present. Thus solar power works well in regions that get lots of sunshine, and less well in regions that typically have lots of rain. Even in cloudy regions, though, it’s still possible to generate electricity through solar power some of the time.

That’s why there’s so much interest today in learning how to build and install your own solar panels for electricity. Building solar panels can be an enjoyable project for the entire family. Making solar panels yourself can give you an immense sense of personal satisfaction as well as the knowledge that you’re doing something good for the environment.

Even if you’ve never done much in the way of home improvement before, web sites such as Earth 4 Energy, Power 4 Home and Homemade Energy.Com teach you how to build solar panels step by step for as little as $200. That’s much more economical than commercially installed solar power systems costing thousands of dollars.

Do something good for your family, your home and Mother Earth by learning how to build your own solar panels. Sustainable solar power offers so much benefit, and will save you money month after month after month….

Top 5 Green Energy Companies From 2008

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009
Nick Tart asked:

Thousands of organizations and businesses are going the extra mile and spending the extra dollar to buy utility-scale energy from renewable resources. So much so that the United States E.P.A. (Environmental Protection Agency) compiles a quarterly list of the top green power companies from their Green Power Partnership program which came out in July 2008.

Some businesses take diminutive steps towards a green campaign, but these companies are proving their allegiance to a greener environment by voluntarily spending millions of dollars on clean energy.

Intel purchased 1.3 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in January 2008. This compensates for 47 percent of the companies overall energy use.

PepsiCo purchased 1.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity in 2007, the equivalent of powering 90,000 homes for an entire year. This accounts for 100 percent of their annual energy use. PepsiCo was named Green Power Partner of the Year in 2007 by the E.P.A.

U.S. Air Force has already purchasd 9 million kilowatt hours of electricity this year as of July 2008. They have invested in a number of biogas, biomass, geothermal, solar and wind energy providers.

Wells Fargo has purchased 5.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity from wind energy providers thus far in 2008. They are also a Green Power Partner of the Year in 2007. More than green energy, Wells Fargo has made a number of other commitments to their green campaign including LEED certifying their buildings and offering online account statements.

Whole Foods Market, the past two years has purchased enough green energy to compensate for 100 percent of their energy use, totalling to over 5 million kilowatt hours annually. The company is also investing in multiple other efforts to reduce their carbon footprint on the environment.

Other organizations ranking high on the E.P.A.’s list are Starbucks, Johnson & Johnson and the University of Pennsylvania.

You Can Have a Green Energy Home Dream

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009
Josh Stevens asked:

It’s been getting easier to make your home more green energy friendly. The technology has gotten so much better for using solar and wind for power that it has become much more easy to build your own systems.

In a green energy home you can use solar hot water heaters to heat all of hot water needs. It not only heats it, you can store it in a holding tank for later use. You would install solar collector panels with photovoltaic cells to convert the sun to energy. If you go with purchasing a system and having it installed for you it could be kind of pricey, but you would recoup your investment over a period of years. You could build and install it yourself if you have any mechanical ability and save some money.

If you are in the process of building your home you could have it take advantage of the sun by implementing a passive solar design using the south facing side of the house for heating and cooling. If you have highly efficient windows and heat retaining materials you could reduce your heating bill in the winter by using the suns energy.

Another use of green energy is to use windmills. This will allow you to take advantage of the wind to generate some electricity. Of course if you live in an area that does not have many windy days this may not be the route for you. Otherwise windmills are a very efficient way to supplement your power. You can buy windmills from retailers and have them installed or buy kits and build and install them yourself.

The ultimate scenario would be if you could take advantage of both of these methods of green energy to power your home. By using the wind and sun to generate electricity you are looking not only at huge savings with the possibility of profits from your electricity usage, but you would truly have a green home as each of these options will contribute little to global warming.

Benefits Of Green Energy Sources

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009
Frank Mikael asked:

Fortunately, we can change our ways and then shift our attention to green energy sources. But why green energy sources?

Well because there are lots of advantages to using them, which we will never be able to get if we don’t change our ways. This is also even if some will argue that the problem with green energy is that it is sometimes difficult to generate the power we need. While that may be true, that is why there are other green energy sources available and we just to know which ones are viable given the geographic location.

There are various green energy sources such as:

solar, wind, wave, hydropower and geothermal

These energy sources do not produce anything harmful which may have a negative effect on the environment. This is the exact opposite of what you get when you continue to operate a coal or nuclear power plant.

Coal: you have to remember releases carbon dioxide into the air. On its own, it may not cause that much damage but there are currently 50,000 coal plants around the world and that number is expected to grow.

Nuclear plants may not release anything harmful into the air. The issue is how we dispose of the spend rods and if another nuclear accident should occur. We remember Chernobyl and Three Mile Island. We have probably learned better ways to prevent another incident from happening. Through the years, a few minor accidents have occurred and although the leak was contained, just imagine if it wasn’t?

Green energy sources may not be maintenance free, but at least it does not require that much to maintain them compared to conventional means. In the end, we save money because such facilities don’t cost that much to operate.

The next advantage of using green energy sources is that we will never run out of them. For centuries, the sun’s rays have reached so has the wind which is blown from the sea. By using it, we decrease our dependence on oil which is a nonrenewable resource.

If you think about it, many of us have taken these green energy sources for granted. If we do the right thing now, future generations will not have to face the mess that we could have handled on our own years before.

In short, the power is in our hands. We now have the technology and we know what to do with it. The only thing we need is to do is to put our money where our mouth is because despite the number of conferences on global warming and climate change, little has happened.

It is easy to talk about how concerned we are about the environment but you have to ask yourself when will more solar panels or wind turbines will be erected? When will the number of coal or nuclear power plants be reduced?

Green energy sources is the solution to the environmental, political and social problems of this lifetime.

What is Green Energy?

Friday, September 4th, 2009
James Stewart asked:

What is Green Energy - It’s all around us. We can see it, feel it, touch it and even consume it. Sounds a little bizarre right? Well, it’s quite true but what on earth is it?

Primarily, I’m talking about sun and wind - sources of clean, natural energy, more commonly known as green energy.

There are also 3 other sources of Green Energy in use today and these are in the form of tidal energy (water), biofuel and geothermal. However, the more common forms of green energy resources are solar and wind.

Solar energy is very basically the conversion of sunlight into electricity. Solar cells convert sunlight directly into electricity and are used to power almost anything ranging from small calculators and watches, right up to huge satellites which orbit the earth. All TV and communications satellites are powered by solar energy using solar technology.

Wind energy is simply the conversion of wind energy into electricity. This is achieved by using a wind turbine. Wind Turbines are a great resource of natural green energy and are often used in conjunction with solar panels or as an alternative to solar energy. The benefits and uses of Wind energy are such that wind is actually the fastest growing energy source worldwide.

These energy sources are generally natural, renewable and endless sources of energy used to generate thousands of hours worth of electricity and power for numerous uses all across the world. These forms of energy are much cleaner forms of energy since they cause far less pollution than the traditional burning of fossil fuels by emitting no carbon or other greenhouse gas emissions.

They create less pollution and in turn are much more environmentally friendly forms of energy.

On a very basic level, the electricity we currently use in our homes is mostly generated at a power station. This is basically done by using large electromechanical generators which are driven by heat engines fueled by burning fossil fuels such as natural gas or coal. This method pollutes the earth by emitting carbon and other greenhouse gas emissions into the earths atmosphere.

We all easily make a big difference at home. By installing solar panels or a wind turbine, you can harness the power of nature and provide your home with an almost limitless supply of clean, green energy.

3 Reasons to Use Green Energy Right Now

Sunday, August 9th, 2009
Max Loodlin asked:

The market of green energy is growing exponentially. More and more people are going green and for good reason. Let’s take a look at 3 reasons why you should use green energy right now.

1. Green For The Environment

Using green energy is one of the best ways to help out the environment. Green energy is clean and is renewable which means that it won’t harm the environment and it will never run out. Fossil fuel emissions are slowly killing our planet which is why everyone needs to do their part in keeping our environment healthy. We need to take action now if we want keep our planet a sustainable place to live.

2. Green $$$

Along with helping out the environment, green energy can also save you a ton of cash. At the very minimum, a natural energy source will save you 80% on your energy bill. And this is just within a months time of using a renewable energy source. Not only will your natural energy source have payed for itself within a month, but you will also save you hundreds of dollars. But, even more incredible is the ability to make money off of your green energy source. Since green energy is renewable it has the ability to produce more energy than you actually need. This means you will be able to sell unused energy back to your utility company for a lot of cash.

3. Green Won’t Always Be Cheap

The most important reason why you should go green now instead of waiting is because this market is growing rapidly and is bound to become huge within the next six months. And when this market becomes huge you can expect prices to soar as well. Right now you can make your own green energy source for around $50. How long will this be a realistic price? Not very long. In just a few months this price could easily increase to 3x times the current amount. Green energy will always have the ability to save you money, but when you have to dish out hundreds of dollars it may take a pretty long time.

Enjoying A Green Energy Home

Sunday, July 19th, 2009
Tim Mcdonald asked:

With all the improvements in green energy technology, it is now simpler than ever to begin adapting your house into a green energy home.  A green energy home makes use of renewable sources to supply hot water, power, heating and security.

There are a variety of methods to making your house a green energy home.  The first is solar power.  In your green energy home you could put in a solar heating system to heat and store water for use, and put in photovoltaic solar panels to convert the sun’s rays into power. If you bought and had these systems put in by a specialist they could be rather expensive. However, there are numerous resources and guides on the market to produce your own solar panel and hot water systems that are much more affordable.

If your house is still being built, a good way to turn it into a solar power house is to employ passive solar technology during construction. If you are in the Northern Hemisphere, this means making use of the south-facing sides of your house for heating and cooling.  By putting in many light-efficient windows and heat regulating bricks on the south-facing side, these passive solar techniques help make your house into a green energy home.

Another method is making use of a windmill on your property.  Windmills are driven by the wind to generate power and even pump water from an outside source.  Wind turbines can be fixed on your rooftop or in your yard to produce clean electric power.  Like solar panels, domestic windmills can be bought and installed commercially, but that costs a lot of money. So, in recent times a wide selection of affordable sets have been made put on the market for people to make their own wind turbines and install their own green energy home plans.

Another way to add effectiveness to your green energy home is to utilize a nearby stream and produce hydro-electric power.  This is a fantastic pollution-free alternative that requires low maintenance and works as long as the stream is running.

The ultimate green energy home combines all of these renewable energy sources.  By utilizing the power of the wind, water and sun to produce electricity you would enjoy not only massive savings and potential profits from your power consumption, but also largely reduces your carbon footprint. By combining solar heating systems and passive solar architecture into your green energy home, your need for power from traditional sources (fossil fuels) would cut down considerably and you would be living the renewable energy dream.

What’s nice is a green energy home does not require any more maintenance than conventional houses. Solar technologies need little maintenance and wind and water generators need only occasional oiling for optimal capability  There is no better time than now to start your green energy home project and live a cleaner life off the grid.
