Since most energy efficient bulbs use fluorescent tubes, normal dimmers will not work because of the way they operate. There are dimmers available for use with these types of lights but they are significantly more expensive than conventional dimmers. If you are not handy with electricity you will need an electrician to install them. I suggest you buy a "nite light" which uses a 7 watt incandescent bulb. This will be as inexpensive as any solution and they work great.

We have always been told NEVER use an energy efficient light bulb with a dimmer switch.

<a href=""></a>

The energy efficient light doesn't have a element like a conventional bulb it works on florescent tube method. It needs a high enough charge to work, if you cut down the power it cannot function. A conventional bulb is just a thin wire that gets hot to create light, the more power the hotter and brighter it gets the less power the dimmer it gets.
The two work on different physics. The dimmer uses less electricity on a normal bulb because less power is used through the bulb element so get a normal bulb for her room.
Yes I know you will have to get your wallet out to spend the 50 cents to get one.
